UNESCO Clubs 2016 Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition

 

UNESCO, the U.N. organization that brings grass roots initiatives in Education, Science, and Culture, invites youth around the world to take part in this year’s Multimedia Competition.  The natural optimism and unparalleled connectivity put youth one of the greatest positions to bring much needed change to the world. UNESCO’s mission is to mobilize youth to purposefully use their talents to serve others now,  ensuring even greater impact on the future to come.

Submission Guidelines

Participants: 

 

 

Product:

Juniors - ages 10-14;  Youth - ages 15-19; and Young Adult - ages 20-24

A 3-minute video, multimedia presentation, 500-700 written essay, art work or any method that channels a specific passion that answers the prompt 

Dates:

The contest starts Nov. 16, 2015 and the final deadline is Jan. 16, 2016. Judging will take place between Jan. 17 and Feb. 17, and final winners will be announced Feb. 18.

Prompt:

Choose one of the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and develop your solution to accomplish this aim. Click any goal above for details on each goal.  Entrants should respond in English by making a 3-minute multimedia production, 500-700 word written essay, art work or any method that channels a specific passion in answering the prompt. (Translations or subtitles for projects not submitted in English do not have to be perfect.)

Prizes:

There will be 7 semifinalists for each age group who will receive a certificate. The three finalists in each age group will receive an official plaque engraved with their name and a certificate. They will have an invitation to UNESCO’s Builders of the Universe Camp held during the summer of 2016 at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, USA. The invitation will include a scholarship for the fee for the camp, food, accommodations, and transport to and from the airport. Airfare is not included.  There will be a special ceremony held for contest winners at the camp.  In addition, the top 9 winners will be recognized and showcased in global events during the year. This is a tremendous opportunity for youth to build leadership skills, learn how the United Nations conducts itself, and meet youth from around the world.  Winners will be publicized on Feb. 18, 2016 on USFUCA and UNESCO websites.

Rules:

Make sure your entry follows the submission guidelines prior to submitting:

 

  • The work has to be relevant to the question.

  • Your work must be original.

  • All participants need to fill out the Submission Form.

  • Please make sure your essay satisfies the following formatting criteria:

    •  12 point Times New Roman

    • Double-spaced

    • 1 inch margins all around

    • 500-700 words in English in MLA format.

  • Videos must be 3-minutes maximum.

  • Images of 3-dimensional art will be accepted.  You must complete the 100 word explanation of your work on the Submission Form.

Submission:

We at UNESCO Clubs would like to thank the youth of the world for their 500 + entries from 40 +countries in this year's Multimedia Contest. No more submissions will be accepted. All projects submitted according to the guidelines, by the deadline and with working access to the project were accepted. We will contact all participants by Feb 18 with the results.

FAQ

Q: Do you accept group submissions?

A: No.  Submissions should be submitted by one participant.

 

Q: How is the contest judged?

A: The competition will be judged by our international panel of judges. Judging will be done online via the Google Drive. Each judge will receive a randomly-selected number of submissions for each age group with the entrant’s name removed. When all votes have been submitted, the highest scores will be selected for the top 3. The other 7 will be the semi-finalists. Any discrepancies will be decided by the organizing team.

 

Q: What criteria will be used to select the winning essays? 

A: Judging will be based on a sliding scale of 1-10 (1 indicating needs improvement to 10 indicating exceptional) based on relevance, development, creativity, impact, and originality.

 

Q: Who are the Judges?

A: The international panel of judges will be selected and showcased on the official website.  These are 

college-educated professionals with experience in academia and / or the arts.
