Kathy Sledge

 

Kathy Sledge is an undisputed world renowned, international recording artist. Summer 2014 Kathy releases a new dance single, "Keep It Movin" (EDM) and a new urban single "A Little A Lot" in Fall 2014. Currently receiving stellar reviews for her performance in the one woman show "Brighter Side of Day" a tribute to legendary singer Billie Holiday, co-produced by jazz legend Stanley Clarke.

 

After meeting Kathy and her sisters hit songwriters Niles Rodgers and Bernard Edwards wrote and produced "We Are Family" reflecting their real life family. The song and the album went on to reach No 1 position on every imaginable chart all over the universe and also earned a Grammy nomination. The album also spawned two additional hit songs "Lost In Music" and "He's the Greatest Dancer." Kathy recorded the vocals to "We Are Family" in just one take. Sister Sledge went on to double platinum success on several albums.

Sharon Katz & The Peace Train

 

The multicultural South African band of Sharon Katz & The Peace Train helped Nelson Mandela end Apartheid and have continued spreading their message of peace and reconciliation through performances and workshops in festivals, educational settings and concert halls around the world. 

 

Nominated for the Grammy’s “Best World Music Album,” the group made history in 1992 when they formed South Africa’s first, 500-voice multiracial choir and then organized a courageous tour on board a train –The Peace Train – to promote a peaceful transition to democracy. Their pulsating rhythms, rich harmonies, guitar-driven maskanda and mbaqanga melodies, spine-tingling Zulu dances, funky basslines, Afro-jazz horn lines, intricate drum patterns, and compelling lyrics tell of South Africa’s turbulent past and its joyful present – while also getting the dance party going!

Cheick Hamala Diabate

 

Cheick Hamala Diabate is a musician from Mali, West Africa who has been nominated for a Grammy award. Using Maryland as his home he travels all over the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.  Film music credits: Joli Coeur; Movies: The Garbage Boys.
